An amazing community effort!
Horncliffe parish is an amazing community. Together we raised over £200,000 to secure our pub premises. Since then, this community has pulled together to achieve so much.
Our volunteers have been doing some of the unenviable tasks of clearing the loft, knocking off concrete, taking out pipes, repointing walls, stripping layers and layers of wallpaper and clearing away rubbish and rubble.
Our local tradesmen have trusted that we would raise sufficient funds to pay them for the work they have started to do. Some have waived the upfront deposit for the work and have donated free building materials and paint. Local companies have donated free furniture and equipment, or sold it to us at a reduced cost.
Our committee have been working away in the background, successfully obtaining grant funds for the refurbishment of the building. They pushed hard to secure £65,000 in order to have a pot of money to secure matched funding for the project. We are grateful to our grant funders The National Lottery Community Fund; The Prince’s Countryside Fund; Berwick Community Trust; The Community Foundation and Tesco Community Grants, for helping us to build that pot of money.
